Days out with children in and around South Yorkshire

days out

The school summer holidays are fast approaching and now is the time to start planning for those 6 long weeks in order to keep your little ones entertained. Here are my top 5 places to take children if you live in or around South Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Park

This is by far one of the best wildlife parks I’ve been to (and I’ve been to ALOT). It is constantly being updated and new animals are added regularly. They have recently installed a Polar Bear enclosure which is amazing and one of the only enclosures in the UK which is pretty impressive. They have lots to do and see including Lions, Tigers and Monkeys and there are plenty of food outlets and picnic areas for lunch. Definitely a must see attraction.

Clifton Park

This park situated in Rotherham is an absolute gem in the school holidays, especially if the weather is nice! The park is free to enter with only a small hourly parking charge and hosts a play ground, water park and fair. The rides and waterpark are open daily during the holidays. It also has really nice grounds which you can walk round or let the little ones ride their bikes/scooters. It also has a small café and large grounds for picnics. I advise you get their early-ish in the morning as I imagine it will be fairly busy during the holidays.

Magna Centre

This is a good one for slightly older children and a perfect idea if the weather is rubbish as a lot of it is indoors. Magna is a science centre with over 100 exhibits based on Fire, Water, Air and Earth. It’s a great day out and it also provides a learning experience for your children. I do feel it is slightly pricey to get in especially if you have a few children going, but if it is something you are interested in doing and book your tickets online here you can save yourself 10%

Hollywood bowl

Bowling is great fun for all the family and again, is a perfect idea for when the weather isn’t great (Let’s face it, this summer hasn’t exactly excelled itself has it!?) Hollywood bowl is a large bowling ally based within Valley Centertainment in Sheffield so there are plenty of places to eat if you wanted to make a day of it. It does get really really busy though, especially in the school holidays so booking is advisable. Hollywood bowl is offering it’s customers a family bowling deal for £19.39 (based on 2 adults and 2 children bowling) during the summer holidays which is very reasonable.

Graves Park

This is a park I go to on a weekly basis as it’s very close to where I live and I can’t recommend it enough! The park is situated amongst large grounds which is suitable for bikes and scooters etc and it even has it’s own farm which you can look round and even feed some of the animals! It has a really good playground and sandpit and has a nice café which does reasonably priced food and drink. You can also bring a picnic if you wish. The park and farm is completely free to get into and the hourly parking charge is only 50p! A complete winner if you want to have fun with your children and you’re on a tight budget!

I hope I have given you some good ideas for days out with your children during the holidays if you live near South Yorkshire! What other days out have you got planned with your family? I’d love to hear from you!

Me and Mine (June 2016)

Whoops! Where did June go!? Somewhere amongst the birthdays, the milestones, the holiday and the torrential rain we’ve had I completely forgot to post this on the last day of June. Oh well! A day late is better than not at all right?

My photos for the Me and Mine project come from Sunny Cornwall. As most of my pictures from this month have. What can I say!? They were great pictures and we had a great time! Anyway.

As you know, my daughter turned 3 on the 17th June, something I still can’t get my head around! How do we have a three year old? I really feel like we are on borrowed time now before she starts school next September so before I start blubbing into my brew, I’ll swiftly move on.

June has probably been our most busiest month together. We had father’s day and our holiday together plus K’s birthday and birthday party took up two weekends and just general day to day life. It never slows down does it?

As months go, it’s been a pretty great one but I can’t wait to see the back of it to be honest. The weather has been the worst yet!! What is with this bloody rain!? Seriously, Mother Nature – Have a word.

Here’s hoping that July will bring us some much needed sunshine and brighter days!
