Dylan – You are 17 months old (A letter to my son)

My Darling Dylan you are now 17 months old,

It’s just a quick one. When I wrote your 16 month update (Dylan-you are 16 months old) I said that I wouldn’t write to you every month after that.

But, you’ve had a couple of changes which I feel you need to know about.

Firstly, you’ve slept through the night! And not just one night but every night for a whole week! Halleluiah!  I’m wondering if this is finally the turning point in your sleeping pattern. (It’s only took 17 months!) I’m starting to feel like a new woman. I was starting to think this day would never come! It’s amazing what a full nights sleep does for everyone. Including you.

Secondly, we’ve had a bit of a turn around at the dinner table too. I wrote in your 16 month update that you were particularly fussy when it came to eating your food at teatime but over the last couple of weeks we’ve changed you from a high chair to a booster seat so you can sit at the table properly with us and you’ve started to use a fork to feed yourself with and it’s made such a difference! Not all the time, but enough for meal times not to be as stressful as they were. It’s so lovely to watch you try and use a fork. You try to be so independent. The look on you face when you manage to put a piece of food from the fork in to your mouth is utter triumph. Your such a clever little thing.

Your walking has improved vastly over the last week and you are practically running everywhere now. You have such speed behind you I’m forever telling you to slow down. It goes without saying that you’ve also had quite a few bumps to the head since you developed the speed too. Silly little Dylan, you’ll never learn as I rub and kiss it better.

I said it was just a quick letter this month Dylan and I meant it. I’ll leave it here. Your a bit under the weather today and Daddy and I are hoping that you haven’t caught the Chicken Pox from your sister. I’m off to go and give you a cuddle.

Keep up the good work Darling.

We love you.

Dylan – You are 16 months old (A letter to my son)

My darling Dylan,

I haven’t written to you for the last few months as I thought now that your 1 years old I’d let you know what you’d been up to every few months, I hope that’s ok!

These last 4 months have been brilliant sweetheart, you are progressing so much. You took your first couple of wobbly steps the week before Christmas (at 15 months) and now there’s no stopping you! You are toddling about the house much more confidently now and much more regularly although I still think you prefer to crawl as it gets you there faster!

You are responding more to communication and making relevant noises when we ask you questions. Your favourite word at the moment is “yeah” – you say this in response to almost everything.

Katie has noticed more of a change in you than anyone I think, as you can fully play with her now although there is a little bit of frustration on her part when you brake/rip/throw her toys whilst your playing and I have noticed I’ve had to intervene a couple of times! She currently enjoys asking you what “ra-ra does” as you always respond with “Roar”! She finds this very funny.

You are taking much more of an interest in things now and you like “In the night garden”, “Thomas the tank engine” and “Ra-Ra the noisy lion”. You enjoy playing with cars and dinosaurs too.

Sleeping through the night is still a bit hit and miss darling, we’ve had the odd night lately where you’ve slept from 7:30pm-6am but usually you still wake once or twice during the night. Your quite easy to resettle though so it’s not too much of an issue just yet. No matter how much sleep you’ve had (or lack of) you nearly always wake up at 6am.

Meal times for you are the same every.single.day! Breakfast and lunch time you eat like a horse then come tea time you eat absolutely nothing!! You won’t even try it, your so fussy! I’m hoping it’s just a faze and you grow out of it soon as it can be quite stressful in the evening when all your doing is throwing food on the floor!

Your cheeky mischievous side is still there and growing by the day, your becoming aware of what you shouldn’t be doing (like drawing on the walls!!!!!!!) and doing it anyway! But you then laugh and then we laugh…You get away with murder!

We still have to be careful with you sometimes though sweetheart as you have a temper like a raging bull! Some days, particularly in the evening when your tired you can have some almighty temper tantrums where you throw yourself on the floor in dismay! It makes me smile though as I like to think it’s your fiery side coming through and surely that’s not always a bad thing!? Like everything though, I’m sure it’s just a faze.

I think that’s about it for now my darling, we all love you so much.

Stay mischievous , no one likes a boring baby!

XOXOXO

Diary of an imperfect mum

Introducing…Katie and Dylan!

Ever since I started my blog back in January 2016 I’ve tried to be as honest and open about my family life in my posts as I possibly can but one thing I have never disclosed is my children’s names. From my very 1st post I’ve always referred to them as K and D and I honestly don’t know why. I felt like I almost needed to protect them from the internet which is ridiculous really given that their pictures are up there for everyone to see and a lot of people who read my blog and follow me on social media know their names anyway! I’ve always found it difficult when writing about them to just say “K” or “D” and I’ve slipped up on a few occasions over on Instagram/Twitter. Plus if you were to look on my husbands Twitter you’d blatantly see their names on his bio anyway (he’s Stateside84 if anyone cares to give him a follow! 😉 )

So I thought I’d do a little blog post and introduce them, my beautiful little children that you read so much about.

KATIE GRACE

Katie is 3 years old (going on 13!) she’s outgoing, bubbly and very intelligent. She likes to talk ALOT and can be quite bossy at times. We chose the name Katie Grace purely because we liked it and not for any other reason. We didn’t know when we were pregnant with her what sex she was so if she was a girl, she was Katie and if she was a boy, she was Jake. It’s as simple as that. She is our beautiful first born, the daughter I always wanted and the little girl we adore.

DYLAN ALEXANDER

Dylan is 15 months old and our miracle baby read here. He has a smile that could melt the hardest of hearts and a temper like a raging bull! (I’m hoping it’s a faze haha!) He is just full of gorgeousness. We found out we were having a boy at our 20 week scan but it took us 5 days after he was born to give him a name. He was labelled “baby boy” for the first 120hrs of his life. We wanted to make sure his name fitted his personality and I think it does just that. He is beautiful with his thick blonde hair and large eyes. Our little fighter, our baby and our son.

XOXOXO
