Me and Mine (September 2016)

dsc_0113

September has been an emotional month and a month of change for us all in our family. K started at preschool on the 5th, our little man turned one years old on the 18th and I’ve just returned to work this week following maternity leave. We’ve also been away for a week so it’s been pretty full on. It’s a month where we’ve all grown a little bit whether it’s physically or mentally and we’ve all had to learn new routines. This months photos were taken on D’s actual birthday. We had gone to the local park in the morning to try out his new trike. The weather was beautiful and probably one of our last sunny days before autumn really sets in. We had such a nice morning playing around in the trees and the grass. K has started to share my love of photography and wanted to take some photos of myself and D which to be honest, she did a great job at and I keep meaning to dig our old digital camera out for her to have a practice on.

Although September has now come to an end and it’s probably the last we will see of any sunny days, I feel excited about autumn coming. The cosy nights and scented candles, the autumn clothing and cold weekend walks are my favourites things about the winter weather and I can’t wait to embrace it!

Starting Pre-school

dsc_0050

K has been attending nursery one morning a week since the start of February this year. It was a chance for her to make some new friends and have a new experience away from me and it was a chance for me to spend some time alone with my youngest. She loved going and the nursery and staff that are there are great.

On the 5th September this year K started back at the nursery that she had been going to but now she’s downstairs in the pre-school area. We made the decision to send her 5 days a week but only 9-12pm so it got her into a routine for when she started reception next September and it also gave her some stability in terms of seeing the same people and doing the same routines everyday as she is a person that thrives on that kind of environment.

Daddy came with us to drop her off for her first proper morning. Dropping her off wasn’t hard as I knew she knew the building and the staff but I felt very emotional. The little person that I’d had at the side of me most days for the last 3 years wouldn’t be there in the mornings anymore. It felt oddly quiet when I got back in the house. I also worried that she would feel lost and abandoned since she didn’t know any of the other children. I need not have worried because she was buzzing when I picked her up that lunchtime. She had made some nice friends, had a great time and couldn’t wait to go back the next day.

Wearing a uniform to pre-school is optional at the place that K goes as it is a private nursery and most of the children are sent wearing their own clothes but it was K’s choice to wear a uniform. I think she looks really smart and it makes it so much easier to be organised in the morning as I know exactly what she’s wearing.

I have D with me full time everyday (except when I’m working) so I’m not alone but it does feel strange without K around in the morning. We try to do something together in the afternoon whether it’s going to the park or staying at home and playing and I will try to make the most of this for the next year as I know when it comes to September 2017 I will lose that time completely.

For now, I hope K continues to enjoy pre-school as much as possible.

XOXOXO

D – You are 11 months old (A letter to my son)

IMG_20160817_093025

My beautiful happy little boy,

I feel like I start every letter with the sentence ” I can not believe you are this old” but this month it really is true and I can not believe you are 11 months old. Your 1st year is nearly up and in many ways it has gone by in a flash and in other ways it feels like you have always been here with us.

You are such a beautiful little soul. You have come a long way in the last 2 months since I documented your 9 month update. You are desperately trying to crawl which is the main difference. You find it so frustrating that you can’t get your arms and legs to synchronise at the same time and it’s also frustrating to watch you as you are so close to doing it. I’m pretty confident you will grasp the concept in the next month or so and we can all get ready when it happens as there will be no stopping you.

You are still the happy, cheeky chappy that we know and love but this last month we have seen you have some enormous tantrums which I didn’t think were even possible at your age. If you become frustrated or something is taken away from you (mainly by your sister) or you’re not entirely happy with a situation, you scream and cry and kick till the situation changes! My goodness, it is a show! Sometimes it is difficult to settle you down afterwards. I don’t remember your sister doing this (unless I blocked it all out) so I can’t work out whether it’s a little boy thing, your age or just your personality. You cheeky little monkey! I’m sure there are more fun and games in the upcoming months, so we had better brace ourselves.

Food for you isn’t an issue anymore. Your moto seems to be “the more food the better” you are a really good eater now and I can’t believe I ever had a worry that I wouldn’t be able to wean you. You did it in your own time just like everything else you’ve achieved.

Clapping and blowing kisses are your new motor skills for this month and you can also wave hello and goodbye.  It is so nice to interact with you on a different level now and you are showing more understanding each day of things we are saying to you.

You still only have 2 bottom teeth. You are dribbling and chewing ever such a lot these last few weeks so I do believe your top two teeth will be here with you very soon.

Sleeping is getting better, you sometimes have a morning nap depending on what time you woke up at that morning and you always have 2-3hrs in an afternoon. Bedtime is still 7:30pm and you sleep until around 5:30-6am with one wake during the night for a bottle of milk.

Your favourite person is still your sister and you both have a great time together. She is the one that instantly gets the laughs and kisses from you. I do believe as much as Daddy and I try to teach you new skills, it is your sister that is learning you the most. She is amazing at interacting with you and meeting your needs. You adore her.

You continue to have regular check ups with the liver specialists. You had one this week and continue to have them every 3-4 months until you are 2 years old. They are so pleased with your progress. We are reminded all the time on how critically ill you were and we genuinely thank our lucky stars daily that you are here with us today. My little miracle boy.

We all love you so much.

Here’s to another amazing month ahead.

Me and Mine (June 2016)

20160610_155919

Whoops! Where did June go!? Somewhere amongst the birthdays, the milestones, the holiday and the torrential rain we’ve had I completely forgot to post this on the last day of June. Oh well! A day late is better than not at all right?

My photos for the Me and Mine project come from Sunny Cornwall. As most of my pictures from this month have. What can I say!? They were great pictures and we had a great time! Anyway.

As you know, my daughter turned 3 on the 17th June, something I still can’t get my head around! How do we have a three year old? I really feel like we are on borrowed time now before she starts school next September so before I start blubbing into my brew, I’ll swiftly move on.

DSC_0833

June has probably been our most busiest month together. We had father’s day and our holiday together plus K’s birthday and birthday party took up two weekends and just general day to day life. It never slows down does it?

As months go, it’s been a pretty great one but I can’t wait to see the back of it to be honest. The weather has been the worst yet!! What is with this bloody rain!? Seriously, Mother Nature – Have a word.

Here’s hoping that July will bring us some much needed sunshine and brighter days!

Me and mine (April 2016)

DSC_0569

These months photos are coming straight from Graves Park this morning, one of K’s favourite destinations in the world it appears. We must go here AT LEAST once a week. This morning I realised that although we had done quite a bit as a family this month and had a few days out I’d not taken any photos of the four of us together (naughty naughty!) So off we went with my camera and my tripod and poised ourselves in front of the lambs to take a photo. I do feel really disappointed when I don’t get many photos of us all together. It’s annoying because I genuinely have my camera on me at all times, whether that be on my phone or my big camera and I’m always taking pictures of my family (I’m seriously snap happy) but because I’m behind the camera lense I’m never in them therefore we rarely get pictures all together. This is what I love so much about the me and mine project, it forces you to take the photos you would have otherwise missed.  So as per usual, next month I promise to take more photos as a family throughout the month! (I fear that is a goal I will be making each and every month)

DSC_0570

The weather has been a funny one this month. Annoying as that is. Firstly we have the sun so hot that we all get sunburn then it quickly turns into rain and then snow. The joys of living in the UK I guess! It does make it really difficult though to make family plans as you never know what it’s going to be like. Like I mentioned, we have had a few weekends where we’ve done a fair bit together including a trip to a wildlife park earlier this month and a trip to the bowling alley. Plus the usual park/picnic and swimming trips. D is becoming more aware of his surroundings now which is lovely so I feel like he is really taking in what we are doing and enjoying it to a certain extent (as much as a 7 month old can do, anyway). I do love March, April and May as they are the months with the most bank holidays what with Easter and May day so it means extra family time and the hubby not being at work as much.

DSC_0573

May is particularly quite in our household but the hubby’s birthday ensures that we will have a few family days. Let’s just hope the weather picks up for the next upcoming month!

This month we are loving

Daddy being off work more for the bank holidays

Picnics (when the weather holds out)

Visiting the animals at the park and at the zoo

Waking up to sunshine

Lighter nights

K using her scuttle bug or scooter

That’s it from us this month. If you want to see more of what we get up to as a family then head over to Instagram where you can find my daily pictures and musings.
