Me and Mine (May 2016)

Every month I declare that I am going to be more organised with photo opportunities and guess what!?…this month I actually was! *fist pumps* We have had such a great month as a family. May has seen my hubby have quite a few days off work (love that)due to bank holidays, birthdays and general days to take and the weather has been absolutely gorgeous so we have been out and about making the most of our time together and I managed to take my tripod out on 3 different occasions (go me!) which has meant lots of lovely family memories in some lovely scenic locations. I find it really easy to take my camera out with me and K is so used to it now she even asks if we can go out and take some pictures haha! She finds it really funny that I do a mad dash back over to her once I’ve set the camera on the timer!

I’ve mentioned many times before that we are very much an outdoors family and you can normally find us in woodlands and different parks. It makes it really easy as K walks really well and we are keen baby wearers so D is always in a sling which makes it easy as we don’t have to drag a pushchair around with us.  I used to do 99% of the sling wearing when D was a newborn but he’s so heavy now that I can’t wear him for a prolonged period of time as it’s too much of a strain on my already bad back so my hubby shares the wearing now. It’s actually really lovely as he gets that bonding time with D too and it takes the pressure off me.

We’ve been so so busy this month but it has been a nice busy where our time has been filled with quality activities (days out, birthday parties, weddings, fairs, seaside) rather than just boring busy life schedules and I thank my lucky stars that we are privileged enough to do the things together that we do. We are away on holiday in the next fortnight and it will be our first holiday as a family of four and D’s first holiday experience. To say I am excited is an understatement! It’s a strange feeling as I feel like it’s a milestone that I was pushing to hit. D was so poorly when he was born and we almost lost him so to be having his first holiday feels like we’ve made it past the finish line. It probably sounds really strange!

It’s been a wonderful month here for my two this month. It feels like the age gap is becoming significantly smaller as D gets older and is able to learn more skills and show more of an interest in things. K is enjoying the fact that D can play more now he can sit unaided. Although now that he is interested more in toys, K is starting to struggle with the whole sharing aspect. Something that every almost 3 year old goes through.  She is leaning every day and even makes a point of telling us that she is sharing really nicely (!) so she is progressing. The bond between these two hasn’t altered, it is still as fierce as ever. I long to be included in their secret when they are sat giggling with one another. Sometimes all it takes is for them to look at one another and they break into laughter! I am immensely proud of the way they are together and the way K is so protective and loving towards her brother.

This month has been really easy for me to take pictures of them. D is always willing to smile for the camera but getting K to do so it slightly tricky but over the last few weeks she’s been asking me to take photos of her and her brother – something I am always willing to do!! The pictures I have captured this month are in various parts of our house basically because I find they are more willing to sit for a photo right after they have woken up from their naps – you get what you can get! ha!

I do sometimes feel sorry for D as his sister has days where she genuinely doesn’t leave him alone. She is constantly in his face trying to make him laugh, kissing him, cuddling him, wiping his face etc. It is so endearing and she really means well and is trying her hardest to look after him and although 99% of the time D doesn’t mind there is the odd time when he does! Trying to teach K boundaries is something we have been practicing this month as parents. On the whole though they are amazing with one another and I genuinely couldn’t be prouder of my little siblings!
