D – You are 8 months old (A letter to my son)

My darling boy, you are 8 months old.

I’ve previously wrote about how fast the other months of your little life have flown and again, although this month is no different, I am absolutely loving the stage you are at at the minute. I want you to stay 8 months old forever! You fill me with joy every single day. We are having so much fun lately, you are the happiest, giggliest, cheekiest little boy I have ever known. I am so so proud of you lately as you seem to have cracked your feeding issue. You are confidently eating 3 pureed meals a day plus around 4-5 8 0unce bottles. Although you are still not tolerating solid food I am sure it wont be much longer. The speech and language therapist came to review you a couple of weeks ago and seemed satisfied that you will get there eventually. ¬†You are really enjoying your food now you know how to take it and meal times as a family are my favourite part of the day. I got you weighed last week and you are currently 18 pounds 9 ounces! Your a big lad!

Now you are eating more you don’t require that night feed anymore which is a relief to me although you are still getting up during the night but you seem to be easily settled. Mornings are early in our house at the minute and you vary from getting up anytime from 4:30am – 7am. Mummy prefers the 7am rather than the 4:30am let me tell you! You still have two naps during the day – a 30 minute nap in the morning around 10am and a longer nap in the afternoon at around 1-2pm for 2-3hrs. Bedtime still remains at 7-7:30pm.

You are developing every day before our eyes and can now easily roll over on to your front (although getting back onto your back is proving to be a frustrating issue for you) and you are sitting for really long periods unaided. Mummy still places a cushion behind you incase you fall but that’s just me being over protective. Sounds are coming from you thick and fast now and the other day you started to say “da-da” which has made Daddy really chuffed. Hopefully it won’t be much longer before you can say “ma-ma” too ūüôā

You are really enjoying spending time in your Jumperoo recently and it is helping to strengthen your legs. You are also enjoying listening to music on the radio.

Your sister continues to be your biggest fan and thinks it’s great now that you can play with toys together more. You are the first person she asks for in the morning and loves to help me look after you through the day. She understands your cry’s and your whimpers and works out what it is that’s wrong with you almost as well as I can. She is an amazing big sister to you and I know you love each other dearly.

You have been teething for quite some months now but there are no signs of your teeth coming through as yet. Not once have you been grumpy with your teething pain despite it being obvious that they are bothering you. You just seem to take everything in your stride. You brave boy!

We love you to the moon and back you beautiful little soul.

Here’s to another great month!

My darling boy, you are 7 months old today. That’s actually quite painful for me to write. How did you become 7 months old!? It has literally gone in a blink of an eye. I’ve tried to cherish everyday with you as I am aware of how fast the baby year goes but still I’m shocked on how fast it has gone. We’ve had such a good month my little man – lots has happened! You are sitting much better by yourself. You still need Daddy or me as support but you are going longer periods sat up alone. It wont be long before you have fully mastered it and won’t need me or Daddy at all.

We are still having a few issues with weaning. You haven’t taken much food at all and would much prefer your milk! But unfortunately little one, you can not live of milk forever. You will not let me feed you pureed food at all and just clamp your mouth shut when I come near you with it and when I try you with finger foods you either just throw it on the floor or you make yourself sick. It’s not been a fun time as yet. You have been referred to a speech and language therapist to see if they can understand why you wont take any food but until they see you, I shall just keep trying. I’m sure you will get there with it in¬†your own time just like everything else. Your personality is shining through much more this last month D. You are starting to show an interest in more objects and grabbing everything in sight. You become fustrated and grumble at things if you cannot reach it or it is taken away from you. Nothing is safe around you at the minute, especially your sisters toys.¬†K is really enjoying your company at the minute, you are getting to a stage where she feels she can play with you a bit more and likes to play with her toys with you. Her favourite game is building tower blocks and watching you knock them down. That game is particularly entertaining for her at the minute. You continue to enjoy her company and the attention! You’re still not sleeping right through the night but your night time rountine has become much more tolerable now. You still go to bed at 7.30pm (usually a bit before) and sleep right through until 2-3am when you wake up for a feed. You then sleep right through till around 7am so I really can’t moan at that.¬† We read you stories before bedtime and you enjoy this alot. I think the mixture of the cuddles and the pictures on the books are faviourites with you but it is becoming a bit of a struggle to stop you from eating the book half way through! I love the mornings with you my gorgeous man, I love the smile on your face when I come to greet you and say good morning. You smell like warm sleepy baby and it’s just lovely. Sometimes when you wake up before I do I hear you singing to yourself in your cot and it really¬†makes me smile. It’s better than any alarm clock! The weather is getting better so we are spending a little bit more time outdoors at the park. I can’t wait for the summer to come so we can spend even more time outside so you can explore your surroundings. We are starting to do a few more activities during the days now you are getting that little bit older. I have taken you to a couple of music classes which you seem to enjoy and I hope to start a sensory class real soon. Being around you is such a pleasure my little man. I can’t wait to see what the next month brings us!

D – You are 6 months old (A letter to my son)

053

My beautiful boy. Yet another month has passed by in the blink of an eye. You are 6 months old. What a milestone! It is so weird that the last 6 months have flown by yet it feels like you have always been apart of our lives. It’s this month that I feel your personality is REALLY shining through. You are such a laid back baby,¬†nothing seems to faze you.¬†This last week in particular you have started to progess a little more and are now reaching out for objects confidently and turning your body more. You’ve not quite mastered the art of sitting up yet but you are trying so I do feel like your not far off from that. You are continuing to practice your vocals and particularly like shouting and screeching at 5am every morning. It doesn’t matter what time it is though you still have a smile for us when we greet you.

You’ve had a few “firsts” this last month. It was your first time sitting in a highchair. Watching you view the world in a completely different way was so special. You are mesmerised by your surroundings. This last week I have started to give you your first ever tastes of food. Both pureed and finger foods. I remember so vividly weaning your sister and how well she took to food and weaning but you my darling boy are proving to be a slight challenge. I can’t get you to open your mouth for the food to go in! You are quite happy with your milk so for now I won’t push it too much but will continue to offer you food slowly. We shall see where that road takes us. I got you weighed today, you are 17lb 71/2oz (the half an ounce counts). I love to see your weight soar, you were so poorly as a newborn and weighed less at 6 weeks old than you did when you were born so the fact that you are now thriving and a chunky monkey makes us all so happy. We all love you so much, our special little hero.

Your bond with your sister continues to grow and the love she has for you is so fierce. You are the first thing on her mind when she wakes up in a morning. She loves to kiss and cuddle you. She is so full on with you sometimes and myself and Daddy remind her to be gentle with you but you don’t seem to mind one bit. You love the attention from her and you gaze at her with such love it makes my heart melt. The way you two giggle together is so lovely I can’t wait for you to get older so you can play together. I hope you are both so close. You have been teething for the last few months really but this month seems to be the worst so far. You dribble ever such a lot and everything you touch goes in to your mouth. You are still loving your Sophie la giraffe teether and you enjoy chewing on a toothbrush now. I think you like the feel of it on your gums. Your sleeping routine is pretty much the same as the last few months. You usually have a¬†30 minute¬†nap at around 10am, then a longer 2-3hr nap at around 1pm then an evening nap of 30 minutes at around 5.30pm. You go to bed after your bath and feed at around 7:30pm and wake once for a feed during the night. You can wake anytime between midnight and 3am for your feed then you are usually up for the morning anytime from 5am -7am. Mummy isn’t very fond of the early starts especially if the night feed was a couple of hours previous but for you my gorgeous boy I will happily get up. I am half way through my maternity leave with you. I feel so blessed that I am able to take a year off with you just like I did with your sister. I am so happy that I get¬†to be with you when you accomplish your milestones and your “firsts”. ¬†It’s also really lovely that not only do I get the time with you but I get the time with your sister as well and the both of you together. When Daddy is home from work and at the weekends I feel like we are a team. Like it’s us against the world. I love that we get to make our memories all together. As a family. We love you our precious boy. Here’s to another great month!
